Meet Digweed the Cat
Digweed, the cat, was a real cat. He was a black cat - and you know what they say about lucky black cats. Escape artist, fortune teller, friend, hero and Ratbag, these are the almost entirely true adventures of a cat who wanted to go home.
Digweed, the cat sets out on a journey to find a real home, and human friends who will care for him, just as his own mother had when she was a kitten. He encountered friends and enemies, comfort and danger, and usually came out on top - you know how lucky black cats are! Home, Sweet Home is the first in his series of Little Adventures, the almost entirely true stories about a real cat.
Once upon a time there was a black cat called Digweed.
Born in a hedgerow to a mother who had once been a housecat, Digweed dreamed of living a life of luxury in the home of human beings. Though still just a very young kitten, he said goodbye to his five brothers and sisters and set out to search for his dream.
They say that black cats are lucky and fortune certainly smiled on Digweed when he was welcomed into the lives of Eric and Penny.
He was loved and he was safe. He had a whole new world to explore, a summer house to nap in, a birdbath to drink from and a bell and collar with his name on. Digweed’s dream had come true, until the day he chased a mouse and became lost – far from home.

More adventures from Eric Pullin
Henry, a retired racehorse, knows something is amiss when he takes his usual canter through the countryside, near the farm where he lives.
A mine, long closed, seems to be active again. Henry decides to investigate, and finds himself entangled in a ring of bad men, with very bad plans for a lot of local animals, including Henry’s good friend, Shadow, the sheepdog. If he doesn’t act quickly, he might be taken far away from his family and friends, and Shadow might meet an even worse fate!
With a snap of your fingers – The Magical Tree
Will take you wherever you’re longing to be.
To a wild desert island, abandoned, alone,
Or back to the days when the dinosaurs roamed.
And each great adventure will help you to plan
How a brave and bold boy can turn into a man.”
While playing in the woods, a young boy encounters an elf who gives him the chance to save every adventure he's ever imagined within the limbs and leaves of a very special tree.
Eric Pullin, author of Digweed, the Cat
Eric Pullin was born in Wolverhampton, England in 1946.
He attended the local Grammar School before starting his working life as a primary school teacher. Though he loved working with children, circumstances led to him leaving his teaching life and joining Goodyear Tyre Company with whom he worked for many years, mainly in sales and marketing. He joined Goodyear Racing Division which led to his love of Formula 1 motor racing and rallying. He was also a member of the European Goodyear Airship crew. He later set up a franchise to market Goodyear promotional products.
In the early 1980's he moved to Scotland and started his own Quiz Night company, writing and presenting quizzes for pubs, clubs and private functions.
Eric is twice married with a daughter Katy, a son Anthony, and two grand daughters, Lucy and Lulah. He has two stepsons, Paul and Matt by his second wife Penny, who has been the rock on which his later life has been built.
On the birth of his first grand daughter, Eric decided to write a children's bedtime story as a special gift. Though he had never written before, once he began writing, about his cat called Digweed, he found that he could not stop and instead of producing a short bedtime story, he ended up with a full length novel called "Digweed the Cat".
The book sat on a shelf for 7 years until Lucy was old enough to read the story for herself but now she loves her Grampy's gift.
The birth of his second grand daughter Lulah, two years later, started him writing again and this time he produced a short bedtime tale called "Why Animals Don't Talk". This story, written in verse, proved so popular, that Eric decided to write more "Why" stories and soon he had written "Why Owls are The Wisest Birds", "Why There Are Waves On The Sea", "Why Stars Come Out At Night", and many more stories and so "The Why Series" was born.
Eric decided to self publish and his books immediately became popular in the U.K. This success made it possible for him to work in schools helping children with their creative writing and once again, Eric found himself at the front of classrooms all over the U.K. The one time teacher had seen his life go full circle and he is thrilled to be working with children once again.
In 2012 an Italian author friend, Annarita Guarnieri, suggested that he submit his first book "Digweed the Cat" to her publishers - Inknbeans Press.
Now, the story that was written nearly 10 years ago is being professionally and lovingly handled and the grandfather who started to write stories just for his grand children has seen his whole life change.
Still just an ordinary family man at heart, Eric will continue to write his books and work with children in schools for as long a his health allows.
His family will tell you that he's just an "old softee". Eric wouldn't want things to be any other way.
